Many people today, often become bored with the career choices that are made in life. Some regret their choices and others simply accept the idea that there’s nothing they can do.

It can be a sad situation when most us do not end up getting the jobs of our dreams, especially the jobs and the life we dreamed of as children. Realistically, most people will not be in situations or even close to those that are somewhat exciting or aw inspiring as the jobs we told others about when we were young.
When most of us were growing up, we truly believed that anything could happen. Heck, being a doctor, business owner, space adventurer, or even a superhero was possible.
Of course, things obviously changed for many of us and the question becomes… why are so many of us working in dead end jobs like retail? Or call centers? How did so many people end up answering calls from people who cannot find the on/off switch on their remote?
Why has it become so routine for many to work odd days, shifts, and even later hours? If that’s what success looks like, why is there added responsibilities with little to no job satisfaction?
What happened?
An unhappy story
In reality, each and every one of us is different. What we think, believe and even dream about will vary a lot from person to person. However, there are some fundamentals that often remain consistent. Because of that, many of us may have similar experiences or happen upon the same story that eventually sends us down the same path.
Do you remember what it was like when you were young and attending school?
If you think back, most of us at that time were kind of pushed into specializing and even choosing.
- Which subjects and classes would help you to become a doctor or lawyer?
- Which instrument to learn in hopes of becoming a music sensation?
On the other hand, many just sought subjects that would help pass the time of day.
As time rolled forward, we entered college and studied through many courses and classes for two to four years. Even with that, many of us found ourselves living back home with our parents and without any promising job or career. We always believed in being independent, so it’s obvious that a job is required just to make ends meet.
Maybe we find work with a friend or even some job through our parents. Or we work in the local mall doing retail or even a grocery store. In our area, it’s most likely with a call center.
No matter what it is, you stay with them for a while and slowly move up the ranks, and you begin to see a higher salary.
That’s great, since it’s going to be needed in order to cover certain responsibilities such as dating, marriage, purchasing a car or two, buying a home, daily living expenses, raising children, travel and vacation, health care, etc.
As you continue, you’re promoted to shift supervisor, retail manager, general manager, or even a district manager.
Passion vs. Reality
For many, those job situations wouldn’t be bad. Unfortunately, they’re also not an exciting part of life, something that fills you with passion. Of course, let’s not forget about reality and the fact that you have a family to take care of and need that income. It’s certainly not the right time to do something crazy such as starting a business, changing jobs, or borrowing money. Besides that, who has the extra time to do some of the things that you really want to do.
Things can be different
There’s still some good news attached to this story, in fact, it’s not over yet. There are a number of things that you can still do or even those things you dreamed of being. But first, you need to understand how important it is to you. And from there, you’ll need to make a decision that you’re not going to sit idle and accept how things turned out for you.
There’s still time to change things and time to make a difference, you simply need to make it happen…
